A Gwynedd school has received a grant of £20,000 to install new outdoor play equipment to help its pupils have fun and keep fit.
The funding was awarded by National Grid to Ysgol Gynradd Bethel after an application by the school to its Community Grant Programme. National Grid supports local projects run by charities and community groups that meet local community needs in the areas they work, by providing a range of social, economic, and environmental benefits.
Since Autumn 2021, National Grid has been carrying out essential work to replace the electricity cables that connect Dinorwig Power Station at Llanberis to the national electricity network via its substation at Pentir. The original cables were installed in the 1970’s and now need replacing to make sure that electricity supplies remain secure and reliable for the local area and beyond.
Our Community Grant Programme helps us to give back to communities where we operate.
Phil Rose, Lead Project Manager for the cable replacement project, said: “We appreciate that delivering our work can have an impact locally. Our Community Grant Programme helps us to give back to communities where we operate.
“We’re really pleased the school children are enjoying the new equipment. We’re currently considering other applications in the hope of awarding funding to more local good causes in the near future and would encourage other local groups to apply.”
Headteacher, Mr Gwion Owen, said: “The children love the new play equipment and are really enjoying it at break times. We’re extremely grateful to National Grid for the funds to allow us to buy it.
“Applying was really straightforward and National Grid were very helpful throughout. We certainly recommend applying and would encourage other groups too, if they think it’s something they could benefit from.”
