Mae National Grid yn cynnig codi is-orsaf newydd ger Llandyfaelog, sydd i’r de o Gaerfyrddin, er mwyn helpu i ateb y galw cynyddol am drydan yn yr ardal.
Mae National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) yn datblygu cynlluniau i adeiladu is-orsaf drydan 400kV newydd ar dir ger Llandyfaelog yn Sir Gaerfyrddin.
Mae’r is-orsaf arfaethedig yn Llandyfaelog yn ymateb i geisiadau cysylltu y mae NGET wedi’u derbyn ar gyfer De Cymru gan GreenGEN Cymru a National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED). Mae NGED yn gwmni ar wahân i National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET), sy’n berchen ar y rhwydwaith ac yn gweithredu’r rhwydwaith trawsyrru foltedd uchel ledled Cymru a Lloegr.
NGET fydd yn berchen ar yr is-orsaf 400kV arfaethedig yn Llandyfaelog, ac yn gyfrifol am ei chynnal. Disgwylir y bydd GreenGEN Cymru a NGED yn gwneud cais am ganiatâd cynllunio i adeiladu is-orsafoedd 132kV eu hunain wrth ymyl is-orsaf 400kV arfaethedig NGET.
Mae angen is-orsafoedd i droi trydan yn folteddau gwahanol. Mae angen hyn er mwyn gallu trosglwyddo trydan yn ddiogel ac yn ddibynadwy ar hyd a lled y wlad, ac yna ei ddanfon ar foltedd is i’n cartrefi ac i’n busnesau.
Bydd yr is-orsaf posib yn Llandyfaelog yn helpu i ateb y galw am drydan yn Ne Cymru. Bydd hefyd yn helpu targedau sero net Llywodraeth Cymru a’r DU.
Fel busnes sy’n cael ei reoleiddio, mae dyletswydd gyfreithiol arnom i gysylltu cwsmeriaid â’n rhwydwaith pan ofynnir am gysylltiad. Ar gyfer y cynllun hwn, rydym wedi cael ceisiadau am gysylltiad gan GreenGEN Cymru a National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED), un o gwmnïau eraill National Grid sydd ar wahân i NGET. Nid oes gan yr is-orsafoedd presennol yn yr ardal y capasiti ar gyfer maint y cysylltiad a dyna pam fod angen is-orsaf newydd yn yr ardal.
Mae pob prosiect yn wahanol i'w gilydd ac yn gyfrifol am sicrhau caniatâd cynllunio unigol ar gyfer unrhyw seilwaith posib.
Wrth baratoi ein cais cynllunio ar gyfer yr is-orsaf mae asesiadau technegol, cynllunio ac amgylcheddol trylwyr wedi eu cynnal. Mae’r canlyniadau wedi dangos, er mwyn sicrhau system ddraenio ymarferol ac effeithlon ar y safle, bod angen i gynlluniau National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) hefyd ystyried gofynion draenio’r ddwy is-orsaf 132kV a gynigir gan National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) a Green GEN Cymru yn agos.
Bydd yn ofynnol o hyd i NGED a Green GEN Cymru wneud cais am ganiatâd cynllunio ar wahân er mwyn gallu adeiladu eu his-orsafoedd posib ar y safle, yn ogystal â'r cysylltiadau â'r is-orsaf 400kV posib. Mae'r newid hwn yn ymwneud â system ddraenio gyfannol yn unig.
Roeddem yn arfer dibynnu ar danwydd ffosil, ond bydd angen i ni ddechrau defnyddio rhagor o drydan yn y dyfodol i bweru ein bywydau bob dydd, gan gynnwys ein ceir a gwresogi. Amcangyfrifir y bydd y defnydd o drydan yn y DU yn cynyddu tua 50% erbyn 2036, a mwy na dyblu erbyn 2050.
Mae’r newid hwn tuag at ynni adnewyddadwy ynghyd â chynnydd yn y boblogaeth yng Nghymru a Lloegr, yn golygu bod mwy o alw ar ein rhwydwaith i gysylltu ffynonellau ynni newydd a chwsmeriaid. Mae’r is-orsaf arfaethedig yn Llandyfaelog yn ymateb i’r cais am fwy o gysylltiad a’r cynnydd yn y defnydd o drydan a fydd yn parhau i dyfu.
Cafwyd ystyriaethau technegol, cynllunio ac amgylcheddol helaeth fel rhan o’r broses i ddod o hyd i’r safle mwyaf addas ar gyfer yr is-orsaf newydd hon. Mae’r safle rydym ni’n ei ffafrio, tua 6km i’r de o Gaerfyrddin, ac mae’n dal i fod yn destun ymchwiliadau ac arolygon amgylcheddol pellach a chytundebau â pherchnogion tir. Mae’r safle o dan linellau uwchben presennol National Grid i’r dwyrain o’r A484 yn Upland Arms ac i’r gogledd o Lôn Ceirw.
Megis dechrau y mae ein gwaith ar yr is-orsaf arfaethedig yn Llandyfaelog.
Ym mis Ebrill 2024, fe wnaethom gyflwyno cais sgrinio Asesiad o’r Effaith Amgylcheddol ac ymholiad cyn ymgeisio ffurfiol i Gyngor Sir Caerfyrddin fel yr awdurdod cynllunio lleol. Byddwn yn ystyried pob agwedd ar yr amgylchedd yn ofalus wrth ddatblygu ein cynlluniau. Mae arolygon manwl a dadansoddiad annibynnol manwl o'r bywyd gwyllt, y cynefinoedd a'r fflora ar y safle ar y gweill.
Yn ystod y misoedd nesaf byddwn yn ailgyflwyno ein cais sgrinio Asesiad Effaith Amgylcheddol i Gyngor Sir Caerfyrddin i adlewyrchu'r wybodaeth ddiweddaraf a gofynion draenio ar gyfer yr is-orsafoedd 132kV.
Byddwn yn parhau â’n trafodaethau gyda thirfeddianwyr ac yn cynnal arolygon, gwaith technegol ac amgylcheddol o fewn ac o amgylch safle’r is-orsaf arfaethedig i roi mwy o wybodaeth i ni am yr ardal ac i helpu i lywio ein cynlluniau. Efallai y byddwch yn ein gweld ni, a’n contractwyr, yn gweithio yn y safle arfaethedig ac o’i amgylch.
Gallwch gofrestru eich diddordeb yma i gael diweddariadau rheolaidd am is-orsaf arfaethedig Llandyfaelog.

National Grid is proposing a new substation near Llandyfaelog, south of Carmarthen, to help meet the growing demand for electricity in the area.
National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is developing plans to build a new 400kV electricity substation on land near Llandyfaelog in Carmarthenshire.
The proposed substation at Llandyfaelog is in response to connection requests NGET has received for South Wales from GreenGEN Cymru and National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED). NGED is a separate company to National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) which owns and operates the high voltage transmission network across Wales and England.
NGET will own and maintain the proposed 400kV substation at Llandyfaelog. It is expected GreenGEN Cymru and NGED will each apply for planning permission to build their own 132kV substations next to the proposed NGET 400kV substation site.
Substations are needed to convert electricity into different voltages. This is needed so that electricity can be transmitted safely and reliably throughout the country and then delivered at a lower voltage to our homes and businesses.
The proposed substation at Llandyfaelog will help meet electricity demand in South Wales. It will also help the Welsh and UK Government’s net zero targets.
As a regulated business we have a legal obligation to connect customers to our network when a connection is requested. For this scheme, we have received connection requests from GreenGEN Cymru and National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED), a separate National Grid company to NGET. Our existing substations in the area do not have the capacity for the size of the connection hence the need for a new substation in the area.
Each project is distinct from one another and is responsible for securing individual planning permissions for any proposed infrastructure.
During preparation of our planning application for the substation thorough technical, planning and environmental assessments have taken place. The results of which have demonstrated that, to ensure a workable and efficient drainage system on the site, National Grid Electricity Transmission’s (NGET) plans need to also consider drainage requirements of the two 132kV substations being proposed by National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) and Green GEN Cymru in close proximity.
NGED and Green GEN Cymru will still be required to apply for separate planning permissions to be able to construct their proposed substations on the site, as well as the connections into the proposed 400kV substation. This change relates only to a holistic drainage system.
Where we previously relied on fossil fuels, in the future we will need to use more electricity to power our daily lives including for our heating and cars. It’s estimated that electricity consumption in the UK will increase by approximately 50% by 2036 and more than double by 2050.
This shift towards renewable energy coupled with an increase in population in Wales and England, means there is greater demand on our network to connect new sources of electricity and customers. The proposed substation at Llandyfaelog is in response to the increased connection request and increased consumption of electricity that will continue to grow.
Extensive technical, planning and environmental considerations were taken into account as part of the process to identify the most suitable site for this new substation. Our preferred site, which remains subject to further environmental investigations, surveys and agreements with landowners, is situated approximately 6km south of Carmarthen, beneath the existing National Grid overhead lines to the east of the A484 at Upland Arms and north of Ceirw Lane.
Our work on the proposed substation at Llandyfaelog is at an early stage.
In April 2024, we submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment screening request and a formal pre-application enquiry to Carmarthenshire County Council as the local planning authority. We will carefully consider all aspects of the environment in developing our plans. In-depth surveys and detailed independent analysis of the wildlife, habitats, and flora at the site are underway.
In the coming months we will be resubmitting our Environmental Impact Assessment screening request to Carmarthenshire County Council to reflect the latest information and drainage requirements for the 132kV substations.
We will continue our discussions with landowners and undertake surveys, technical and environmental work in and around the proposed substation site to give us more information about the area and to help inform our plans. You may see us, and our contractors, working in and around the proposed site.
We will also be inviting people to share views on our proposals for a new substation at our community consultation, which is anticipated to take place in early 2025. It will be an opportunity for you to meet the project team and ask questions about our plans. The feedback received at this consultation will help us shape our plans before submitting a planning application to Carmarthenshire County Council in late 2025.
