Electric vehicles

Transport currently accounts for a significant proportion of global CO2 emissions, so electric vehicles (EVs) are increasingly seen as playing a key role in helping to tackle climate change and reach net zero carbon emissions.

From 2035, new petrol and diesel cars will no longer be sold in the UK and the US is aiming for half of all new vehicle sales to be electric by 2030, meaning it’s likely that more of us will be looking to drive an EV in the future.

What is EV charging anxiety – and is range anxiety a thing of the past?

EVs are growing in popularity across the globe, largely because they’re seen as being instrumental in helping to reduce global carbon emissions and reach net zero. But there are still many uncertainties and even misconceptions about electric vehicles and their capabilities; two of the most common concerns being what’s known as ‘range anxiety’ and, more recently, ‘charge anxiety’.

Can the UK grid cope with the extra demand from electric cars?

As electric vehicles (EVs) become more widespread, this is one of the most common questions we’re asked. Find out what we're doing to make sure we're ready.

Busting the myths and misconceptions about electric vehicles

There are a number of concerns and misconceptions about EVs that are still making people think twice about getting one – here we address some of the most common EV myths.

Electrifying our fleet to help tackle climate change

Transport makes up 23% of energy-related carbon emissions globally and businesses have a critical role to play in leading by example and encouraging an uptake of EVs within their own fleet. We’re doing this by joining the EV100 initiative.

What happens to old electric car batteries?

While electric vehicles are recognised as reducing carbon emissions, we still get lots of questions about the life of electric car batteries and whether they will end up in landfill, potentially knocking electric cars' green credentials.

The (surprisingly long) history of electric vehicles

Electric Vehicles have been in existence for almost 200 years and pre-date internal combustion engines. In fact, they were on our roads and rails long before Henry Ford’s affordable cars revolutionised travel.

Charging EVs on the move could end range anxiety

Dynamic charging could be the future for emissions-free driving. Innovation Engineer Mingyu Sun leads a pioneering project in our Innovation team, exploring the potential to charge EVs as they drive by installing electric layers beneath our road systems.
