Work begins at Seabank Substation and Crooks Marsh
National Grid is working with Western Power Distribution (WPD) to make changes within Seabank substation and to replace nearby pylons at Crooks Marsh with new underground cables.
The work is part of National Grid’s construction of a new 57-kilometre, high-voltage electricity line between Bridgwater and Seabank near Avonmouth, to connect six million homes and businesses to new sources of low-carbon energy.
The works, which begin in February 2022, are being carried out by J Murphy and Sons on behalf of National Grid.
The team will begin by building a construction access point and layby on Ableton Lane. To keep everyone safe while these works are carried out, Ableton Lane will be closed for approximately eight weeks from Monday 7 February 2022.
Once the construction access point has been built, J Murphy and Sons will build a construction road to access our work areas and prepare the land at Crooks Marsh before installing the new underground cables to replace the existing WPD pylons.
Ableton Lane is narrow in parts, as such, two-way traffic lights will be used to manage construction traffic until works are completed in late 2023.
