National Grid, in collaboration with Cadent, Northern Gas Networks, SGN and Wales & West Utilities, have completed a feasibility study, delivered by Costain Oil & Gas that could promote an earlier and more flexible conversion to hydrogen for certain areas of the UK gas network.
A replacement gas pipeline under the River Humber has secured a place in the Guinness World Records. It is officially the world’s longest hydraulically inserted pipeline at 4.96km. Work to complete the installation continued throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to secure supply of up to 25% of Britain’s gas ahead of the winter months

Since 2018, National Grid’s Hinkley Connection Project has awarded £345,000 in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) grants to 538 schools in Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucester – the areas closest to the project. Applications for the 2020/2021 Hinkley Education Fund are now open.
