Steve Smith

Career: Steve joined National Grid in October 2021 and is Interim Chief Strategy and Regulation Officer. He previously held the role of Group Head of Strategy and President of National Grid Partners. Before joining National Grid, he spent 11 years at Lloyds Banking Group (LBG) holding a number of senior executive positions and was a member of the Retail Executive Committee. Prior to LBG Steve was a Board member and Managing Director at Ofgem, and his early career included American Electric Power and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC). 

Skills and competences: Steve has more than 25 years’ experience in the energy and finance sectors spanning: venture capital, fintech, innovation and competition, government and policy, markets, regulatory reform and regulatory strategy. Steve has also held a non-executive position in British Gas’ Customer Fairness Committee and has also been an angel investor in energy startups in the UK.
