13th December 2023 - Infrastructure | London Power Tunnels news | Responsibility
The LPT team is in celebration mode having secured two prestigious accolades at this year's Construction News Awards.
The combined efforts of National Grid and the construction team led to the coveted Project Team of the Year award, whilst partner organisation HMJV collected the Net Zero Team of the Year award.
The London Power Tunnels project, which finished 32.5km of tunnelling earlier this year, is not only on schedule but also under budget. The work to date exemplifies the team's dedication to delivering a sustainable and enduring solution for London's growing energy needs. They continue to work hard to complete cabling and construction around sites ahead of project completion in two years’ time.
The Net Zero Team of the Year Award went to HMJV, the construction partner responsible for the colossal feat of completing the world's largest continuous pour of Earth-Friendly Concrete earlier this year. This achievement, saw 736m3 of sustainable, cement-free concrete poured at National Grid's Hurst substation in South London.
Developed by Wagners and supplied by Capital Concrete, this cutting-edge concrete solution offers a remarkable 64% reduction in carbon emissions compared to conventional concrete.
As a group, National Grid has made a bold corporate commitment to ensure carbon neutrality in construction activities by 2025/26, and it’s great to see those involved rewarded for their efforts in paving the way to Net Zero.
Congratulations to all involved, and thanks to the judges for their consideration!
