Adult skills programme

Unemployment rates across the South West are the lowest in England but, as there are pockets of high unemployment, we’re helping local people find new jobs through our Adult Skills programme.

Following the success of a pilot course, we’re continuing to fund Ixion Holdings to deliver high-quality training across the six local authority areas affected by the Hinkley Connection project.

By working with the local councils along the Hinkley Connection route, we’ve identified local skills gaps in the construction industry and we’re developing targeted training programmes to help plug these gaps.

The construction industry requires skilled individuals, so we are working with Ixion to find people suitable for this training. The two-week courses provide local unemployed people with skills and qualifications to help them find new jobs.

We’ve been delighted with the take up so far. 135 local unemployed people have completed the course and almost half have gone on to find new jobs.
