Employees at National Grid raise over £41,000 for Pudsey

24/11/2009

Staff at National Grid, whose headquarters are in Warwick, dug deep into their pockets to donate £41,267.06 for Children in Need 2009, with employees at the Warwick office raising £3,211.06 of the total throughout the day.

A cheque for the sum was presented to Terry Wogan and Tess Daly live on air during the annual, televised fund-raising extravaganza.

In a true demonstration of the power of action, a variety of fund-raising events were held throughout Children in Need day.

Tombolas, raffles and quizzes were held across the company’s various locations, as well as sponsored leg waxes and a samosa sale.

Pudsey Bear joined five pylon painters near Lillingstone Lovell in Buckinghamshire who painted a National Grid pylon yellow for Children in Need and raised over £1,000 by giving up a day’s pay.

Trish Handsley, National Grid’s Community Relations Officer, said: ‘The National Grid employees have never failed to get into the spirit of fund-raising. In the last ten years we’ve raised more than £500,000 for this worthy cause. Their support is what makes the event such a great success year after year.”
