National Grid teamed up with creative illumination specialists Creatmosphere to light up the lives of Londoners.
Creatmosphere created a ‘light trail’ along Regent’s Canal footpath as part of the Reveal arts festival which is currently taking place in the King’s Cross area.
Various structures were lit up along the historic footpath, including a temporary pontoon walkway which has been installed by National Grid.
The pontoon diverts towpath users away from a section of the path where National Grid is carrying out essential repairs to a section of high voltage cable housing which has been damaged by subsidence.
National Grid Project Engineer Simon Chandler commented “It’s very apt that Creatmosphere illuminated our pontoon bridge for the festival. It was a fitting reminder that National Grid helps to keep the lights on and that our project is an essential part of that mission.”
Creatmosphere Creative Director Laurent Louyer said:
“The Pontoon was a perfect sight for the start of this light trail with high visibility from Maiden Lane Bridge that encouraged the public to go down and discover the rest of the trail. We would like to thank National Grid for their support and their overall contribution to this project”
The light trail ran between April 22 and April 25 between dusk and 11pm.
The repair project is being carried out by the Electricity Alliance, a partnership between National Grid and Balfour Beatty. Work is expected to be complete in October 2010.
