Duke of Edinburgh gets insight into National Grid’s role in keeping the lights on and the gas flowing

The Duke of Edinburgh today visited the National Grid Electricity Control Centre in Berkshire.

The visit was hosted by National Grid’s Executive Director Nick Winser, Network Operations Director Chris Train and Electricity Operations Manager Jon Fenn MBE.

The Duke of Edinburgh met employees and was shown how National Grid operates the electricity system. Staff also talked about the vital role National Grid is undertaking to help connect lower carbon sources of generation and the part the Organisation is playing in helping Government meet its Climate Change targets.

National Grid Transmission Executive Director Nick Winser organised the visit to give the Duke an insight into the workings of National Grid

He said: “We are very pleased His Royal Highness accepted our invitation to come and visit today. We were able to give a real sense of our vital role in keeping the lights on and the gas flowing 365 days of the year. We also shared the work we are doing to help safeguard our global environment for future generations.”
