National Grid invests over £2million in essential 21st century gas mains for Amersham

National Grid is investing over £2million in two essential gas mains replacement projects in Amersham.

Work will start this month on replacing 14.2km of old iron gas mains with new, hard-wearing plastic pipes in Woodside Road and residential streets to the north.

The two projects will be carried out at the same time, but work has been planned carefully with the local council, traffic police and bus companies to minimize disruption to local residents and motorists.

Work will be taking place in the following streets:

Scheme A
Roundwood Road, White Lion Road, Woodside Road, Grove Road, Plantation Road, Blackhorse Crescent, Blackhorse Close, Bridge Place, Park Place, Mitchell Walk, Briery Way, Green Lane, Highfield Close, Hyrons Close, Shortway, Grimsdells Lane, Orchard Lane, Raans Road, Hyrons Lane.

Scheme B
Quill Hall Lane, Park Road, Middle Close, Deans Close, Chestnut Lane, Buckingham Close, Stubbs End Close, Parchment Close, The Gowers, The Penningtons, Chestnut Close, Chestnut Court, Parkfield Avenue, Sycamore Road, New Road, Plantation Road, Weller Close, Cherry Orchard, Plantation Way, Weller Close, Meadow Drive.

National Grid’s Construction Operation Engineer Mick Pierce said: “To reduce disruption we will be inserting the new plastic pipes into the old metallic mains wherever possible to reduce the need for open trenches in the roads.

“We apologise for any inconvenience but these essential schemes will help ensure residents and businesses in Amersham continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies in future years.

“Anyone with queries about the project can call our 24 hour helpline number on 0800 096 5678.”

The work will be carried out by the North London Gas Alliance, a partnership between National Grid and Skanska, and should be complete by April 2011. It forms part of National Grid’s ongoing work to replace all metal gas mains within 30 metres of buildings, as agreed with the Health and Safety Executive.
