Engineers will be working in Wombourne next week to install a new gas main that will help improve gas supplies to the area.
On February 2nd Wombourne Road will be closed at the junction of Bridgnorth Road while engineers from West Midlands Gas Alliance (a partnership between National Grid and Morgan Est plc, a major utilities contractor) lay a new section of gas main across the junction. The work will take around a week to complete during which time diversions for motorists will be signposted.
The scheme will see nearly a mile of old metal main running along Bridgnorth Road being replaced with new hard-wearing plastic pipe.
Project manager Dave Garbett said: ‘This new main will help to improve the gas supply in this area of Wombourne. We're aware this is a busy route and so will do all we can to keep disruption to a minimum. However, this work is a short term inconvenience that will bring long term benefits. The new pipe we are laying is made from hard wearing plastic and, once in the ground, will last for around 80 years with little or no maintenance.'
The project is part of National Grid’s 30 year programme to improve the safety and reliability of the gas supply network by replacing all metal gas pipes within 30 metres of property.
