As part of the national curriculum theme ‘Caring for the Environment’, pupils at St James’ Primary School in Grain learnt about how animals are protected during major construction works thanks to sessions organised by National Grid and BritNed team members.
BAM Nuttall, working on behalf of BritNed, invited children to enter a competition to design a poster showing care for the environment. Entries were received and judged at the BritNed exhibition earlier this year by Parish Councillors Ken and Janice Bamber, and representatives from National Grid and Bam Nuttall. The winners were Georgia Lee, Chelsea Harrison, Amber Coake, Lauren Relf, Leah Irving, Bethany Irving and Alex Webb.
Prizes included publication of the posters which will be used on National Grid’s and BritNed’s site, a day trip to the Wildwood Animal Park, book tokens and a Nuttall goodie bag.
School headteacher Sue Gray said: “It’s very valuable for pupils at St James’ Primary School to learn about their local environment, and National Grid has done a great deal to help educate the children. We continue to strengthen our partnership working to explore initiatives which benefit the school.”
Spencer Pepper, BritNed project manager, said “We value our involvement with St James’ Primary School. Sharing our practical knowledge with pupils in the classroom allows teaching to be made effective and enjoyable. I would like to thank all the pupils for their efforts and enthusiasm in the competition and hope that they enjoy their prizes.”
