A stretch of the Lee Valley towpath will be closed temporarily for essential electricity works.
The Electricity Alliance, a partnership between National Grid and Balfour Beatty, is currently refurbishing the overhead electricity transmission line between substations at Waltham Cross, Brimsdown and Tottenham.
Work on the project has now entered its main phase which involves replacing the overhead line fittings, painting and work on the steel structures. These works will not affect local electricity supplies.
To facilitate the work we will be temporarily closing the towpath running to the west of the William Girling Reservoir between 7.30am and 6pm from 20 April 2009 to 15 May. It will be closed again from 15 June to 10 July. Diversions will be in place via Lee Park Way and Meridian Way. The Electricity Alliance has coordinated these diversions with Enfield Council, British Waterways and Sustrans.
National Grid Project Manager Simon Chandler said: “These closures are needed to ensure that the work can be carried out safely. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and we will make every effort to ensure we complete the project as quickly and considerately as possible.”
The project is part of the Electricity Alliance’s ongoing work to ensure a safe and secure electricity supply to the South East in future years
