A Warwick-based National Grid employee has been recognised for his volunteering work by the Warwickshire Education Business Partnership.
Ciaran Morgan, a Technical Specialist at National Grid, was awarded a certificate of thanks for his work as a science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) Ambassador at an Imagineering Club at Budbrooke School in Warwick.
Last year Ciaran helped arrange a 10-minute radio link-up between Budbrooke School and the International Space Station. The link allowed school children to ask questions to British-born space tourist Richard Garriot while on his 10-day extra-terrestrial visit.
Debbie Ellis, STEM Manager at the Warwickshire Education Business Partnership, said: “I am delighted to be able to offer this award to Ciaran. Enabling the children at Budbrooke to talk to an astronaut on the International Space Station was truly amazing! How inspiring is that!”
Ciaran said: “I am honoured to receive this recognition from the Warwickshire Education Business Partnership.
“The live link-up with Richard Garriott on the International Space Station was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the children at Budbrooke School, and I am delighted to have been part of the world-wide team of volunteers that made it happen. What better way is there to encourage the next generation to study science and engineering than by helping them be part of the biggest experiment of their lives!”
