Liverpool Cub Scouts turn safety into fun thanks to National Grid

17/06/2009

Cub Scout Daniel Doran has turned safety into games equipment for the St Paul’s 19th Fairfield Cub Scouts.

Daniel, aged 10, won second prize in the National Grid Home Safety competition run as part of the company’s sponsorship of the Cub Scout Home Safety Badge.

Daniel’s prize included a £50 voucher to spend at the Scout Shops, a certificate signed by Chief Scout, Peter Duncan, and £300 for his pack, which they used to buy new games equipment.

National Grid’s Malcolm Montgomery was invited along to a Cub night to present Daniel with his prize and the pack with their games equipment.

Malcolm said:  “I’m delighted to have been invited along to present the prizes.  Working with the Cubs on home safety is a perfect way of getting our gas safety messages across to youngsters.  Congratulations to Daniel and thank you to all who took part.”

Daniel said: “It’s great to have won a prize that means we can all have fun, not just me.”

Group Leader Peter Eaves said:  "It was a terrific surprise for one of our cubs to win and I’m delighted for Daniel.  The outdoor games we have purchased will give us many happy hours of fun.”
