Bishops Wood Environment Centre, which is supported by National Grid and based at the company’s electricity substation near Stourport-on-Severn, is hosting an open day on Sunday 27 September to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth.
From 2pm to 4pm visitors to the centre will discover how early experiences and adventures awakened Darwin’s curiosity and love of nature.
Activities at the centre range from carrying out some of Darwin's experiments, which include teaching earthworms to appreciate music, to pond dipping and mini-beast hunting, as well as exploring the woods and fields as Darwin did as a young boy.
John Rymer, Head of Bishops Wood Environment Centre, said: “Charles Darwin was arguably the most important biologist of all time. Our work at Bishops Wood encourages our young visitors to explore the natural world and gain an enthusiasm for nature. And who knows - there may even be another Darwin amongst them.”
