A Northampton-based National Grid employee is hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for Comic Relief on Friday when copies of his specially-penned song go on sale.
Stuart Smith, an administrator at National Grid’s offices in Northampton, has written a song called ‘Take the time’, encouraging people to spare a thought for those in need. The CD also features two other songs written by Stuart – ‘Hope in your heart’ and ‘If you believe’.
‘Take the time’ will be played through speakers at National Grid’s Northampton office on Friday, and CDs of his songs will go on sale, at £3 each. He hopes to sell 100 copies, and get match funding from National Grid, which could mean that the amount raised through sales of the CDs could reach £600. This is in addition to numerous fund-raising initiatives taking place throughout other National Grid offices on the day, showing how employees are using the power of action to try to make a difference.
Commenting on his song and the inspiration behind it, Stuart said: ‘I attended an Effective Communication course at work and played one of my songs to the training group. After hearing that, they suggested I write a song for Comic Relief – so that’s what I did. It’s great to think that my songs could be raising money for such a worthwhile cause.”
