Gas supply loss Rossendale - Statement 6

23/12/2008

More than 300 engineers are working around the clock to restore gas supplies to 18,000 homes and businesses in Bacup, Waterfoot, Rawtenstall, Newchurch and Crawshawbooth.

Following work to repair the damaged pipe, National Grid has begun work to repressurise the medium pressure main. However, work has not started to pump gas back into the local gas network which supplies homes and businesses in the area.

Every effort is being made to restore supplies as soon as possible. Safety remains National Grid’s top priority. When it is safe to reconnect supplies, engineers will call on every home and business to restore the gas. In the meantime, it is critical that householders do not attempt to use gas.

If you currently have no gas please do the following:

  • Ensure all your gas appliances and equipment are switched off
  • Ensure your gas supply is turned off at the meter – this will enable the gas to be reconnected more quickly when it is safe to do so.
  • Do not use gas again until you have been told it is safe to do so – you will be told when it is safe to use your gas supply again.
  • Please be a good neighbour and pass this information on to your friends, neighbours and relatives.
  • Please tune into the local radio and TV stations for the latest news

If anyone requires help or has any concerns please call the national gas emergency service on 0800 111 999.
