When it comes to toys and games there’ll be no need for a scramble at the Bramble in the run-up to Christmas.
Thanks to a £2,000 donation from National Grid and its contractor Amec, children at the Bramble Ward at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital will have plenty to keep them busy during the festive season.
The money, raised by workers on the two-year project to refurbish the high-voltage electricity transmission line between Broadclyst and Indian Queens, which is now complete, will go towards buying a host of puzzles and activities – as well as vital medical equipment.
The workers took part in a special safety scheme where Amec donated money to a charity fund for each accident-free day of the project – which was then matched by National Grid.
Colin Barker of Amec said: “We’re delighted that the super safety record on the project has had a direct benefit for children on the Bramble Ward.
“Children need a happy, friendly environment when they find themselves in hospital and hopefully our donation will help the great work the staff do at the Bramble Ward.”
Bill Tuckett, matron on the ward, said: “This is a fantastic gesture from Amec and National Grid and is a tremendous boost for the ward.
“We have already bought a blood pressure monitor and a few toys, but there’s a host of other stuff we plan to use it on such as a collection of plants and equipment for our garden area and Early Learning number games.”
