National Grid is carrying out work in Hornsey as part of a multi-million pound project designed to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to homes and businesses.
The work is being carried out for National Grid by the London Alliance, an eight-year partnership between National Grid and Skanska-McNicholas plc JV (Joint Venture). The partnership - worth around £500 million - will look to replace up to 400 kilometres of gas mains per year in the London area.
In Hornsey, engineers are working to replace the existing gas mains with new plastic pipe in the Middle Lane area. Temporary restrictions will be in operation for phased periods throughout the course of the project, which is expected to last approximately 20 weeks. Shops and businesses will be open as usual.
This work forms part of National Grid’s ongoing national mains replacement programme as developed in conjunction with the Health and safety Executive, which involves replacing all metallic mains with new plastic pipe within 30-metres of buildings.
London Alliance manager Richard Hudson said, “The work is vital to ensure everyone in the area can continue to take for granted a safe and reliable gas supply.
“All work has been planned and agreed with the London Borough of Haringey and we will continue to work closely with them to ensure any disruption is minimised.”
He added, “I would like to thank local businesses and residents for their continued patience and co-operation.”
