Grain LNG Careers

As the UK demand for gas is increasing, North Sea gas supplies are declining. In fact, by 2010 it’s estimated that around 50% of the UK’s gas will have to be imported. It’s a challenge that the Isle of Grain LNG site is uniquely positioned to address – and one that presents a considerable opportunity for engineering and marine professionals to play their part in powering history.
The future
£355 million worth of investment and the security of 20-year customer contracts have helped fuel a major expansion of the Isle of Grain site, including the construction of a further 570, 000 cubic metres of storage tanks – each big enough to house the Albert Hall. It’s a significant expansion that reflects the long-term commitment to the site and will increase our LNG capacity from 3.3 million tonnes to a potential 9.8 million tonnes by 2008. However it is the talent behind the technology that will really fuel this expansion. This is where you come in.
Not only is the Isle of Grain LNG site secure, safe and supportive, but truly leading-edge. when you’re working at the cutting-edge of gas importation as part of a leading international power group, every day presents new challenges that will stretch and test your ability as an engineer or marine professional.
Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is not only proving to be one of the most sustainable ways of powering the nation; it’s also regarded as offering more secure careers. This is largely because LNG importation is an energy resource that’s very much on the rise, with many benefits over and none of the insecurities seen in traditional gas importation or alternative power generation supplies. Recognising this fact a contract has been signed with BP/Sonatrach to enable our Isle of Grain site to import natural gas in liquid form from other countries for the next 20 years. It reflects a long-term commitment to the site, it’s technology, and to the careers of people working there that few other international organisations can offer.
