National Grid is facilitating the first customer connection for renewable gas in its intermediate pressure distribution network.
The plant, sited at the existing distribution centre in Suffolk, will be the first in the UK to use brewery and local food waste to produce renewable gas for injection into the national gas grid, as well as providing gas for use as a vehicle fuel.
Enabling the injection of 60 m3/h of biomethane to displace fossil gas, and diverting 50,000 tonnes of CO2 per year from landfill, National Grid is proud to be driving this project forward to deliver connection and injection assets for our customer.
Benefits
- Makes a contribution to the decarbonisation of the gas grid by injecting renewable gas
- Demonstrates that biomethane can deliver renewable heat to households through the existing gas network
- Demonstrates National Grid’s excellence in customer service, working in Synergy with Adnams to develop and deliver the project with a sharp focus on the customer’s needs
- Prevents release of methane to the atmosphere, by diverting the waste from landfill.
