A £196,000 revamp of the gas mains network got underway in Enfield this week. This vital work will see 1.2km of iron gas mains in the area replaced with new hard wearing plastic pipes which will last for many years if left undisturbed.
Phase 1
Work will take place in Parsonage Lane between the junction with Baker Street and Silver Street and the junction with Chase Side. This work will take approximately nine weeks to complete.
Phase 2
Work will take place in Holtwhite’s Hill between Chase Side and Kirkland Drive. This work will take approximately nine weeks to complete.
During the initial phase of work Nunn’s Road will be closed for approximately two weeks at it’s junction with Parsonage Lane to allow access for our plant and to provide safe routes for pedestrians.
To minimise inconvenience the new pipes will be inserted into the old pipes wherever possible, this will reduce the need for large scale digging.
Work has been carefully planned in close consultation with the London Borough of Enfield, police, local transport organisations and other agencies to ensure it is carried out with a minimum of disruption.
National Grid Construction Operations Manager Michael Morris said: “We are sorry for any inconvenience our essential work may cause. However this project will help ensure the community here continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies in future years.”
Work is being carried out by the North London Gas Alliance, a partnership between National Grid and Skanska.
If local people have any queries about the work they can call our helpline on 0800 096 5678.
The project forms part of National Grid’s nationwide mains replacement programme to replace all metallic gas mains within 30 metres of buildings as agreed with the Health and Safety Executive.
Next month the North London Gas Alliance will be starting a second project in Enfield – a £1.7 million gas mains replacement project in Hertford Road. Further details can be found on National Grid’s website at http://www.nationalgrid.com/uk/Media+Centre/PressReleases/2010/Enfield+19.3.10.htm
