Gemini System Code Contingency Operational Arrangements

The following note is intended to clarify the contingency arrangements for all Gas Shippers (Users) whose access to the Gemini system is currently unavailable.

National Grid established an incident team yesterday morning whereby shippers were given limited access to system functionality by way of NG staff acting as their data entry / interrogation agents. This service has since been extended and we intend to operate the following for the duration of Gas Day 24th October.

Communication with the incident team
Outbound telephone communication from the incident team to individual shippers will be maintained throughout the course of the normal Gemini operating window. Regular contact at pre-agreed times such as demand attribution, hourly updates etc can be agreed with the duty call handling agent. Outside of these times a request for contact from a call handling agent can be made by contacting the Commercial operations team on 0870 191 0636.

Energy Balancing
Entry and exit flow nominations / re-nominations will be entered directly on behalf of Users. This can take the form of the following:

  • Upload of data by the provision of a spreadsheet / datafile in a prearranged format
  • Direct data entry in response to a shipper’s verbal request by telephone.
The prevailing (re)nomination status is also available to shippers via:
    • Telephone
    • Fax copy

NBP Gas Trades
Shippers are encouraged to keep NBP gas trade nominations with counterparties up to date during the course of the Gas Day. This can take the form of the following:

  • Direct data entry in response to a shipper’s verbal request by telephone.
  • Upload of data by the provision of a spreadsheet / datafile in a prearranged format
The prevailing (re)nomination status is also available to shippers via:
    • Telephone
    • Fax copy

Entry Capacity
Capacity Trades Between Users
We wish to inform Users that we will guarantee to give effect to new capacity trades made in accordance with UNC in the current period and those previously made but not yet registered on Gemini.

If you have not registered the trades yet (either old trades or trades done today):
a) the buyer should fill in C036
b) the seller should fill in C035
c) both parties should fax their respective forms to the fax number on the form – we need a timestamp prior to 0200 for us to register the trade

If you are unsure if your capacity trades have been registered in Gemini, do NOT send the faxes, instead:
a) please speak to your counter-party first as they should know
b) if you are still unsure then email capacityauctions@uk.ngrid.com – in your email state clearly your query, trade details and contact details
c) we will do our best to revert and sort out – we are having to staff Gemini contingency so we can only promise to address queries made before 1800 hours

In both circumstances:

  • We will endeavour to update our records in real-time so far as possible
  • In the event that we cannot, we will make post-event datafixes. This uncertainty means that we wish to limit the volume of trade registered via this off-line process.
  • The above process should not be used to register trades other than for the current gas day.
  • We will disregard registration requests for historic or future dates.
  • We will however address queries regarding trade registrations in respect of the following few days
  • We will continue this process on a day by day process until Gemini resumes, at which point we will cease to register via this process.
  • We will notify you of requests which we will not register for whatever reason, provided telephone contact details are given.
  • If you have two or more trades with the same details then make this clear via a cover note; otherwise it will be treated as a duplicate and disregarded.

It would be helpful if:

  • Registrations and queries were submitted as early as possible in the relevant day
  • You read the above carefully and follow it accordingly

Forms C035 and C036.
