Connecting wind farms through Mid Wales and Shropshire
National Grid is proposing to connect new wind farms in Mid Wales to the national electricity transmission network via a new connection through Powys and Shropshire.
The wind farms are being developed as part of plans to generate more energy from renewable sources. The existing electricity network in the area does not have any spare capacity so a new network is required to transport power from where it will be generated, to the homes and businesses across the nation where it will be used.

Public consultation
We have recently completed the first phase of public consultation to hear people’s views on the project and ask for feedback on potential route corridors for the new connection and siting areas for a new substation. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback.
What happens next?
The next important stage in the Mid Wales Connection Project is the selection of the preferred substation siting area in Powys and preferred route corridor through Powys and Shropshire. We fully understand that people want to know which will be selected and we are working had to complete our work to make the choice as soon as we possibly can. When we announce, we will publish information to explain the decision we’ve made and the important role the consultation feedback has played in this process.
