CUSC Panel Biography: Paul Kenneth Mott, M.I.E.T.

Paul is currently serving as an elected Independent Industry CUSC Panel Member, now in his fourth year.

He graduated from the University of Reading in 1987 with a First in electrical engineering, and has worked in the industry ever since.  His first post for the CEGB was at Heysham II (AGR) power station.  From 1988 Paul worked for the CEGB’s Privatisation Task Force on the design of the electricity Pool, joining National Power to work on Pool development, and on contract strategy and risk.  Since 1991 Paul has worked for EDF Energy (formerly London Electricity). During the Pool years he served at various times on the Zonal Losses Working Group, the Transmission Steering Group, the Operations Group (which he chaired), the Development Group, various groups connected with capacity payment and demand forecasting issues.  He was elected to represent the South of England Suppliers as a member of the national Pool Executive Committee (PEC).

Paul undertook a six month full-time secondment to DECC from November 2010, working on long-term network-related engineering challenges.

Paul has been an active participant on CUSC amendment working groups.   He also works on various BSC, Grid Code, and System Operator Incentivisation issues.  He has attended the BSC Panel as Panellist a few times, as alternate for an elected panellist there.    He has a special interest in ensuring that the way in which the development of the European Network Codes are taken forward, does not result in changes being imposed on GB codes like CUSC, BSC, Grid Code and UNC, without debate and consideration of industry views.  He is attending a relevant UNC meeting workstream on this topic.
