National Grid launched a public consultation in October 2009 on a new 400kV connection between Bramford substation in Suffolk and Twinstead Tee in Essex.
The line is needed to connect a number of new power generators to the national electricity transmission network in East Anglia.

Preferred corridor announcement
The Preferred Corridor for the proposed Bramford to Twinstead Tee connection has now been selected following extensive consultation.
We have selected Corridor 2, which runs for the most part alongside the existing 400kV overhead line between Bramford and Twinstead Tee. We propose to take down the existing UK Power Networks 132kV overhead line running from Burstall Bridge to Twinstead Tee.
At the eastern end of Corridor 2, there are two corridors we can select.
- Corridor 2A runs due south from Bramford substation, passing Burstall village and turning west to run to the south of Hintlesham village.
- Corridor 2B runs west of Bramford passing to the north of Hintlesham.

What happens next?
The next stage of our consultation, Stage 2, will determine where the connection will run within the chosen corridor.
We will provide the opportunity for anyone potentially affected to give their opinion about the detailed route of the overhead line and where the pylons could be sited.
We will also carry out an extensive assessment of the environmental impact which will ensure that environmental and community impacts are kept to a minimum wherever possible.
At the end of this phase, our final proposals will be presented to the public, along with the outcome of our assessments.
The proposed detailed connection design will then form the basis of the Stage 3 Consultation. Following completion of Stage 3 Consultation, an application for development consent will be submitted to the Infrastructure Planning Commission.
