NATIONAL Grid volunteers exchanged their computers and pens for hand-saws and clippers to help out at a local country park.
A group of National Grid employees from Berkshire took part in a team building event at Dinton Pastures Country Park, Hurst, Berkshire.
Volunteers were tasked with cutting back vegetation overhanging a fence. The vegetation was attracting hungry cattle that were pushing the fence down in their eagerness for a snack. The group cleared a considerable length of vegetation from the fence during four hours of work.
One volunteer was National Grid Balancing Services Manager, Jo Faulkner. She said: “The location and facilities were completely different to our normal roles and everyone gained an enormous sense of satisfaction from what we achieved on the day.
“The Dinton Pastures’ staff were very friendly and helpful and made sure that we all had a safe, enjoyable day.”
Fellow volunteer National Grid Electricity Trader Alex Haffner, added: “The cows will scarcely be able to recognise the field when they are brought back!”
Lucy Harris, Park Ranger with the Wokingham Borough Council Countryside Service commented: “We really appreciate the practical help provided by company volunteers to improve the facilities in our parks and welcomes companies to get in touch and join in.
“Corporate volunteering provides a great opportunity for companies to contribute to the local community whilst encouraging team building and teaching new skills.”
