Coventry employees of National Grid Metering win £2,000 for charity

29/01/2009

National Grid Metering’s Industrial and Commercial Technical Department have won a prestigious Chairman’s Award for demonstrating the real power of action in the field of customer service.

The winners, who are based in Coventry, won £2,000 and have asked for the money to be donated to the British Heart Foundation.

The department was nominated for designing and implementing a new process for providing customers with meter work quotations. With clever use of the Internet, the new quotation procedure has cut customer waiting time from five or six days to, incredibly, just ten minutes.

The Chairman’s Awards recognise the achievements of National Grid employees, and their contractor colleagues, in the fields of safety, health, environment, community contribution, excellence in customer delivery and inclusion and diversity. They celebrate those who go ‘above and beyond’ their day job in the pursuit of excellence, demonstrating the true power of action.

Commenting on the project, Technical Design Officer Gareth Williams said: “It was a career highlight for me to participate in the team to achieve such a real result for our customers and for National Grid.”
